How Did You Celebrate National Pizza Day?

February 10, 2020 by Angela

What a perfect day to come back and reach out to my fellow Woodfired Fanatics…National Pizza Day!  I love that there is a day to celebrate the MOST delicious woodfired food…pizza.  I have to admit I didn’t even realize it was National Pizza Day when our plans pushed our regular pizza night from Friday to Sunday, but it worked out perfectly! I am sorry I have been a ghost for so long and have left you wondering where we went.  That will all be explained soon in another post.

If you have been around since the beginning of this blog, you will know that pizza is very important for us. We have a long history of pizza love…regular Friday night pizza with our families as kids that continued into our dating and early married life. That has just intensified with our ownership of a wood fired pizza oven

You may have seen on social media, I was the one to make the pizza dough this week.  This is a job typically reserved for the meticulous Mr. Fanatic.  I have to say it was nervewracking to say the least.  He has the process down to a science and I felt there was no way I could create the magic he creates week after week. Thankfully, he was just a phone call away sitting in an airport waiting on a delayed flight encouraging me through the process. I made it and the dough turned out pretty well as far as I could tell.

Then came the real test…time to make the donuts, I mean pizza!  (Sorry if you are not old enough to remember that Dunkin’ Donuts commercial.) Well, here it is! It turned out easily, it had the right consistency, and baked beautifully. Here is a shot of the olive oil sauce meat lovers pizza before it was baked. This just proves that even if you’ve never made dough before, you can follow the recipe and turn out some great pizza!

I hope you are celebrating pizza this evening, whether it is fresh from your woodfired home oven, your favorite local family owned shop or even the chain that will deliver to your home. Although today was National Pizza Day, I think it is appropriate to celebrate pizza any day of the year.  Thank you for coming back and reading this post.  I will be back soon with more woodfired fun!
